As one of the psychotherapeutic approaches in a time-constrained daily clinical practice, we introduce a paradoxical intervention that can bring about change in a short period of time. Paradoxical interventions are formalized in brief therapy, systemic family therapy, Morita therapy, etc., but can be widely used in daily practice. If you find a vicious circle process in which "the patient's struggles to get rid of the symptoms intensify the symptoms", paradoxically, you should intervene to stop the efforts. Paradoxical intervention is a method in which a patient, in a vicious circle, thinks that a symptom is<bad>, but the therapist affirms that it is<good>and incapacitates them, resulting in eliminating "symptoms". At the same time, if the therapist is in a tug-of-war situation (a vicious circle) with the patient, paradoxically switching interventions will loosen the tug-of-war and facilitate treatment recovery. A simulated case was presented and a concrete usage of paradoxical intervention was introduced. The points and precautions for paradoxical intervention are: (i) Grasping the patient's daily life concretely, (ii) Grasping the vicious cycle that occurs in their daily life, (iii) Paradoxical intervention is effective when patient has obsessive anxiety, (iv) Grasping intrinsic motivation (healthy energy) behind anxiety, (v) Giving patient simple advice (behavioral prescription), (vi) Valuing sense of humor, and (vii) In hikikomori-type patients, at first, the therapist should develop the patient's intrinsic motivation (healthy energy). Paradoxical intervention seems to exert its power in daily clinical practice with time constraints.
