Yokohama City has continued to implement suicide countermeasures since 2007. However, the COVID-19 pandemic from 2020 has caused various obstacles to operations, especially face-to-face projects. For example, meetings were cancelled or changed to written formats, and training and lectures were withdrawn or used teaching materials instead of invited lecturers. Yokohama City lit up buildings in green, the color of suicide prevention, to show continuous support for suicide prevention; however, it had to temporarily suspend a gathering of suicide-bereaved families as it was considered crowded and a risk for transmission of the virus. Later, the gathering was reopened and continued with some infection prevention measures. Herein, we share our experiences in effectively altering operations in suicide countermeasure projects as the COVID-19 pandemic continued.
