We opened a ward specializing in depression in 1989 and have since continued to treat depression. When designing the ward building, we considered several treatment environments. During treatment, the unexpected aggression exhibited by patients with melancholic-type depression was of concern, and we had to respond accordingly. Due to the change in times, mild deterioration may occur not only in patients with depression, but also in all those with mental diseases, including schizophrenia. Considering the changes from the stress care ward, the type of depression in young people may change. Young adult depression is characterized by a decrease in self-love, self-accusation and extrapunitive behavior, and the incidence of depression with development bias has been increasing even without a diagnosis of developmental disorder. However, the progress of treatment for depression in young adults has not changed. When treatment for emotional oppression and aggressive emotions is successful, introspection and personality development follows. Depending on the age, the surface symptoms may change, but the deep-rooted ambivalence to dependence is considered to be unchanged.
