The comorbidity of mood and developmental disorders in adults was previously controversial. However, the comorbidity rate is currently reported as high and clinically important. The comorbid presentation of mood and developmental disorders affects the quality of life and outcomes. Indeed, evaluation of the comorbid presentation of mood and developmental disorders is often difficult, and appropriate treatment remains unknown. However, because of the high prevalence of comorbidity, general clinicians are increasingly encountering comorbid patients.
This paper provides a review of the literature on appropriate evaluation and treatment for the comorbid presentation of mood and developmental disorders.
