Tokyo Metropolitan Matsuzawa Hospital is one of the oldest psychiatric hospitals in Japan. Over the past 100 years, neuropathological research has been essential in advancing current understanding of the etiology of psychiatric symptoms with world-famous achievements such as the establishment of Lewy body disease's entities and the discovery of TAR DNA-binding protein of 43 kD, in cooperation with Tokyo Metroplitan Institute of Medical Science. The Japan Brain Bank Net (JBBN) has recently been established as a national organization which will advance future neuropathological research in clinical psychiatry.
