"Disorders of bodily distress or bodily experience" is a group of disorders characterized by disturbances in the patient's experience of his or her body. Disorders of bodily distress or bodily experience include "bodily distress disorder", "body integrity dysphoria" and "other specified disorder of bodily distress or bodily experience". Bodily distress disorder involves bodily symptoms that the individual finds distressing and to which excessive attention is directed. It is thought that bodily distress disorder corresponds to the somatoform disorder in the ICD-10. However, when diagnosing bodily distress disorder, emphasis is placed on the excessive attention to the patient's bodily symptoms, not the presence of somatoform symptoms. Body integrity dysphoria is characterized by an intense and persistent desire to become physically disabled, accompanied by persistent discomfort or intense feelings of inappropriateness concerning the current non-disabled body configuration. It is a new concept of disorder established in the ICD-11 that does not exist in the ICD-10 or DSM-5.
