Regarding disorders that are usually first diagnosed in childhood or adolescence, the changes made in the ICD-11 are based on clear background theories. It has become more practical, clearer and comprehensive. The ICD-11 classification grouped several disorders considered to be caused by neurodevelopmental problems and created a new section of neurodevelopmental disorders. This is different from the ICD-10, which grouped many heterogeneous problems usually diagnosed in childhood or adolescence together. Discussion on neurodevelopmental disorders was also changed. Pervasive developmental disorder (ICD-10) was renamed autism spectrum disorder (ICD-11), and hyperkinetic disorder became attention deficit hyperactive disorder, both of which are consistent with DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, although there are some differences. These changes were based on the changes in concepts of the disorders.
