The International Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems has been revised for the 11th revision, which was released in June 2018, as a preparatory version for implementation, marking a milestone in the revision process. This report introduces the overall structure of the ICD-11 and its background, including psychiatry, new methods for coding, changes from the ICD-10 and differences from the DSM-5. Among the most notable changes regarding the ICD-11 structure is the new chapter, Conditions Related to Sexual Health, which is now independent from mental disorders. Within the chapter pertaining to mental disorders, the overarching structure and disorder groupings into which each diagnostic category is classified have been entirely reviewed and updated. Coding procedures employed in the ICD-11 are markedly different from those in the ICD-10, with new signs used for double-coding and new approaches such as multi-parenting. Improvement of clinical utility is considered to be particularly important in the revision processes, and innovative changes, both technical and content-related, are incorporated.
