At a meeting of the Japanese alliance of bipolar disability, a non-profit organization that specializes in bipolar disorder, honest expressions among patients were observed. Among them, surrounding responses that worsen the course of bipolar disorder often become a topic of discussion. For instance, many people complain that their family and bosses do not make an effort to understand the illness, that they do not understand the pain caused by the illness, or even try to prevent treatment. These draw attention to the fact that the patient is being hurt from their surroundings and that their efforts to recover from bipolar disorder are undermined through such responses. An awareness about this situation is necessary.
