Medical research is important to develop medical science as it improves the quality of medical care. However, few young psychiatrists engage in medical research. At the 113th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology, we held a symposium on human resource development in psychiatry and discussed how to get young psychiatrists involved in medical research.
In this article, I discuss my experience as a young psychiatrist as well as the importance of carrying out medical research for young psychiatrists who treat patients in clinical practice.
