It is well known that care-giving burden for dementia victims is associated with depression of the caregivers. The care-giving burden has been said to be attributable mainly to behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). Although several intervention programs to improve the care-giving situation have been conducted, their efficacy has been little. Recently,we began to pay attention to the praxis disorders shown by dementia patients as well as BPSD. The disorder means higher-level motor dysfunction due to pathological process of dementing illnesses. Developing the scientific skills to manage the praxis disorders and BPSD may relieve the care-giving burden. In this lecture, the author described the basic strategies to develop such skills.
